Joni Swenson

Joni Swenson is in her 16th year as an Orchestra Director at Samohi. 

A graduate of UCLA, she taught for 23 years in the Sacramento City Unified School District and in the San Jose Unified School District.

Joni has served as guest conductor for many honor orchestras throughout California, and is on the board of the California Orchestra Directors Association (CODA).

In 2001, Joni was selected by San Francisco radio station KDFC Classical 102.1 as Music Educator of the Year, and in 2004 she received the CMEA Le Blanc Outstanding Orchestra Music Educator Award.

In 2007, Joni was selected as a finalist in the Los Angeles Music Center Bravo Awards. Most recently, she received the 2016 American String Teachers Association (ASTA) Elizabeth A H. Green School Educator Award.

Jason Aiello

Jason Aiello is in his 12th year as an Orchestra Director at Samohi.

Jason graduated with honors from UCLA in 2006 as the recipient of the Joyce Fahlman Fellowship. While at UCLA, Jason studied music education with Dr. Frank Heuser, cello with Antonio Lysy, and did his student teaching at Samohi.

Jason teaches cello and conducts for Elemental Strings, a youth orchestra program for elementary school students in Santa Monica. He frequently guest conducts for honor orchestras, and currently serves as Past-President of the California Orchestra Directors Association.
